After the London 2012 Olympic, a few friends and I fancied giving Handball a go, but there were no facilities in Cornwall, let alone any clubs. We were fortunate in one respect, that German Handball coach Jürgen Koenen’s arrival in Cornwall was immanent.
Effectively beginning with jumpers for goalposts, he trained us to a level where we could compete in Development leagues with the like of Reading, Southampton and Oxford.
We now regularly have 15+ people at training each week, and are going from strength to strength. NHC Youngsters are coming up through the ranks, and schools embracing the sport throughout the county.
We run a summer Beach Handball tournament on Watergate Bay, in collaboration with the Hotel, and Barefoot Media.
I’m proud to say that I’ve helped make this happen alongside Jürgen, Lee Springett, Tristan Mullar-Forster, Adolf Botar, Kevin Welsh, and everyone involved with NHC.
